Prevtec microbia to conduct exploratory mission in Brazil
From November 7 to 15, 2008
Prevtec microbia’s executives will conduct an exploratory mission to Brazil, from November 7 to 15, 2008. The objective of the mission is twofold, both scientific and commercial. Throughout the week, several meetings are planned with veterinarians and scientists on the one hand and businessmen on the other.
Brazil has the 3rd largest pig herd in the world, approximately 40 million head, surpassed only by China and the United States. It is also the 4th largest exporter, after Europe, Canada and the United States, with a 14% market share of exports in 2004. Continued growth is anticipated in the coming years, but productivity is threatened by diseases.
Prevtec wants to assess the prevalence of swine diseases in the Brazilian herd, in order to estimate the commercial opportunity for its products. For several months, the company has been in contact with Brazilian scientists and veterinarians who provided a wealth of interesting information. The trip will be an opportunity to meet these specialists face to face and validate the preliminary findings.
In recent months, steps were undertaken to establish a subsidiary of Prevtec microbia in Brazil. The mission will also provide an opportunity to meet potential partners and complete administrative procedures, with a view to establish the company's presence in Brazil.
Michel Fortin, president of Prevtec microbia, will be accompanied by Dr. Eric Nadeau, vice president of scientific affairs of the company. The exploratory mission will take them from Rio de Janeiro to the provinces of Santa Catarina and Parana, two of the largest pork producing regions of Brazil.
