The Escherichia coli Laboratory (EcL) is a major center of research expertise relating to pathogenic E. coli, including mechanisms of virulence, new approaches to diagnosis, vaccination, and passive immunotherapy. Founded in 1981 by Dr. John Morris Fairbrother, EcL is part of the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire of the Université de Montréal and belongs to the Groupe de recherche sur les maladies infectieuses du porc (GREMIP) and the Centre de recherche en infectiologie porcine (CRIP). It is also a recognized reference laboratory for Escherichia coli of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
